Original starter
(continuing from this)
[Even though he still has a long way to go to restore his strength, Law manages to last out the rest of the night without dropping off again. It helps that once or twice something a little too large passed a little too close to their hollowed-out tree, but whatever it was either didn't like fire or wasn't into humans and kept going on past. His haki alerted him in time, but he sat tense until it passed rather than wake Deku. Kid needs his rest, after all.
The gap in the tree must face east, because Law eventually can see a gray line in the distance as light starts to come up behind the hills, and then the approaching dawn getting brighter and brighter. The fire fizzles out about then, and he stretches out a heel to scratch some dirt over it lest the smoke attract attention. With dawn coming, he won't be able to sleep anyway, so he just lets Izuku sleep for as long as he needs. Besides, he's nice and warm.]

But he does eventually wake up once the sun's been out for a few hours and then he sort of flinches and wakes up fully, snapping into a proper sitting position and looking out of the gap in the tree.]
Uh...? How long have I been out? Shouldn't we have started walking earlier?
no subject
[whether or not pursuing forces from the warlord's stronghold have even picked up on their trail, let alone caught up, a couple of hours won't make much difference to their escape. That's why he let Deku sleep as long as he did. To have both of them still worn out is to condemn them both to an ugly fate.]
Feel better?
no subject
I'm not in top shape, but definitely better than last night. What about you?
no subject
It's going to take much longer for me to be at full strength. Every time I use my ability, it drains me again. I want to keep it in reserve for emergencies only, if we can.
[he lifts his right hand and manages to flex it a little, though it hurts to do so]
...emergencies, and removing our restraints. I may be able to do that later today, unless we run into trouble. [he shifts to regard Izuku and even chances a small smirk] We've got a long road ahead. Ready?
no subject
I won't be trying to run into trouble.
[He'll get up and stretch himself out, a few stiff joints popping. He'll double check he has everything he needs before nodding.]
Just keep heading east, right?
no subject
[now it's his turn. Law kneads his legs briefly with his good hand and then draws them up to try to stand. It takes a lot of leaning on the wall of the tree trunk and a fair amount of hissing and cursing under his breath, but eventually he's up and shaking out his cramped muscles. He brought that on himself, he's aware. Another sweep of his foot scatters the ashes of their fire, so as to leave almost no trace of their presence there.]
Let's go. We'll fill our water bottles at the first chance we get, and see what else we can find as we go.
[time to have an adventure, and hope it's not nasty tentacle monsters!]
no subject
[He'll squint at it, but nod. That's a clear and easy marker for them to go towards.]
Right.
[He'll start walking in the hill's direction, but make sure he's still close by Law, just in case something might happen across them. Izuku's not in tip top shape, but he's definitely doing better than Law is, if they have to manage a quick get away, Izuku can do that easily enough.
Keep an ear out for running water and keep his eyes open for any potential monsters that might want to have their way with them.]
no subject
The longer they walk, the more steady he grows on his feet, ambling along half a step behind Izuku and keeping them on course without too much effort. Before too long, though, the sun is strikingly hot on the back of his neck. Boy does he miss his hat more than ever, now.]
no subject
Just picking up random plants to test them seems like a horrible idea.
But he's also pretty sure that where there are this many plants, there has to be some sort of water source. Especially because Wulgrimm doesn't seem like the kind of place that gets that much rain. He's able to pick up on the rush of water before he sees it, turning a bit away from the hill and towards where he hears the water.]
You hear that, right?
no subject
[they should be able to find their mark, again, after they stop and drink their fill. The water might taste a little funky, but even soldiers in the field drink from wells and streams, so Law is certain it's not actually poisonous or anything. Still, when they reach the stream, he holds up a hand to keep Izuku back until he's knelt and tasted it for himself. If there was anything poisonous in it, he has just enough power to remove it from his body before it takes effect. Nope. Just tastes like metal.]
It's safe.
[and with that he promptly buries both hands in the flowing water and splashes it all over himself, wetting his hair and finally cleaning the rest of the blood from his cuts. Then to drink until he can't drink any more, and then fill his water tin.]
no subject
Ah... Um... Law, can you get rid of poisons from your body?
[Volunteering to drink from a stream that they don't know much about seems a bit strange to him, unless there's a way Law can tell and be confident about the water being safe.
Maybe it's a side effect of the devil fruit he ate?]
no subject
Yeah. Or yours, if it came to that. [he shoots Izuku a wary look] Part of the reason they tried to keep my power suppressed. It's the reason I ate the fruit in the first place.
[speaking of their captors, it might be about time to give removing the collar and bracelet a try. As disconcerting as it might be for Deku to have his hand "amputated" and reattached, he should go first so it doesn't surprise him when Law removes his own head for a bit. He makes that decision easily.]
Do you want to see what I can really do with my ability?
no subject
He nods enthusiastically.]
I'd like to. [There's never a bad time to learn about new powers, after all.]
no subject
As long as they're sitting on the bank of the stream, Law just turns and gets comfortable, stretching out a hand]
I can take your bracelet off. But you have to promise me you're not going to freak out at what you see. I will have to take you apart and put you back together again, but you will feel no pain, nothing. When I'm finished, it'll be like nothing ever happened. Deal?
no subject
He nods. After all that's happened-]
I trust you.
[This is going to be, weird, but he's sitting up and clearly going to be paying a lot of attention.]
no subject
Room.
[No need to shout the command, he murmurs it gently and only summons a Room big enough to contain the two of them. The smaller it is, the less energy it wastes. He works quickly, having no name for the practical medical moves like this and not wanting Deku to lose his shit, taking his arm and stretching it out between them. The knife flashes in one quick strike, and the hand briefly floats in the air between them. There is no blood, no injury, it's like Izuku is made of clay and he simply cleaved off an excess bit. Law yanks the bracelet off and tosses it aside before snatching the hand out of the air and reattaching it, drawing his fingertips over Izuku's wrist and around it to make sure the attachment holds.
As soon as he's certain it's all good, Law banishes the Room and lets him have his arm back to inspect it if necessary. But it leaves no scar, feels like nothing, just as he promised.]
no subject
He starts mumbling to himself, the fact that it's a strange, but certainly powerful ability. There would certainly be at least a dozen different ways to be able to use it in a positive way- would it hurt as soon as he stepped out side of the Room Law summoned? Does it require a knife to cut so cleanly? Or would it work even if he tried to pull it off? It clearly doesn't need anesthesia, a doctor could do so much with something like this. Can it work on internal organs, or is limited to what Law can actually cut...?
The mumbling doesn't stop even as he inspects his arm. And it won't stop until Law interrupts him.]
no subject
He lets Izuku ramble on, it seems to be distracting him enough. Law needs the utmost concentration now, to cleanly slice his neck in the right spot, hold his head in place, and yank the collar away before putting everything back the way it needs to be. While he's at it, he draws his fingertips along his right arm in the place where it hurts the most, commanding the fracture to heal so he can use it.
Once everything is replaced and the collar falls to the ground, useless, Law banishes the Room again and sits back with a deep breath.]
Much better. How do you feel? No effects after that?
no subject
Um... I'm fine. It feels good? It was weird, but now it feels normal- thank you-- Are you okay? Did you study a lot of anatomy before getting your power- or was it the other way around?
no subject
[dammit, this kid. Getting him to actually talk about himself, his past, his life. But being on the run together is no time to clam up and tell him to mind his own business.]
My parents were both doctors. I studied medicine with them while I was still in primary school. The Ope-Ope fruit only enhanced my skills, and made it possible for me to become an expert surgeon.
[and a pirate, yes.]
no subject
No he probably wouldn't do that, it seems disconcerting, plus he's no doctor. That could go very poorly for him.
But with Law offering a bit about himself, he figures he should offer something back.]
My mom has a quirk that lets her pull small objects to her, and my dad can breathe fire. But I've... always wanted to become a hero... I wasn't really cut out for it like a lot of people, so I just have to work much harder than everyone else.
[His own quirk is something entirely different from his parents.]
no subject
These quirks. Does everyone in your world have them? Are they natural, hereditary? Something people have to awaken or discover?
[he's fascinated! And they deserve this little break to rest, anyway.]
no subject
They're natural and hereditary. Usually they come in around four.
[And usually the child's quirk is one of their parents, or a combination of their parents.]
Powers like yours- They're not natural, right? You had to eat the devil fruit?
no subject
At the question, Law gives one quick nod]
There are hundreds of types of fruit, but each one has a unique power. There are no duplicates. Some are said to be more powerful than others, but I firmly believe it's all in how you use it.
[he's seen it for himself, that something as goofy as rubber can be more powerful than ice, flame, and earthquakes.]
no subject
That makes sense.
[He nods.]
It'll depend on who has the most experience with their abilities and what they're used to doing with them. There are plenty of quirks that don't seem very useful at first glance, but every quirk can be useful, it just depends on what you need to use them for.
Oh- but most quirks also come with drawbacks. Aizawa-sensei can temporarily erase somebody's quirk, but when he blinks the effect stops until his eyes are open again. It's not a combat heavy quirk, but it's definitely useful, and he's very skilled in close combat maneuvers.
