SOURCE 💀 First Impressions ☠ VISUAL: Law is tall - 6'3" - and slender but all muscle, particularly in the torso. Long legs, long and elegant fingers. His thin, sharp features and tousled black hair, with the earrings, goatee, and tattoos, give him a youthful punk appearance. His gray eyes usually have a shadow beneath them, as if perpetually tired or never fully recovered from some terrible disease. His most distinguishing characteristics are his tattoos: "DEATH" across the fingers of both hands, a cross-like emblem on the back of both hands similar to the World Government logo of the Four Seas, sunbursts on both forearms, an enormous stylized tribal heart across his whole chest and upper abs with his jolly roger's grin in the dead center of his chest, double-hearts on both shoulders, and his Heart Pirates mark on his back. He also has a fairly fresh and noticeable scar encircling his right biceps, but it's the only obvious scar on his entire body. ☠ FASHION: He prefers comfortable yet stylish clothing, especially button-downs, sweatshirts and jeans, and most of the time the decorations incorporate certain recurring themes: the Heart Pirates jolly roger, hearts in general, and a spotted pattern reminiscent of a snow leopard. He always always wears his silly fuzzy ball-shaped hat unless it gets knocked off his head. He has pierced ears with four gold hoop earrings. Could be convinced to wear a necklace but never rings. Low-heel boots with good tread. ☠ DEMEANOUR: Law comes off as a grump most days, even when he doesn't have any strong feelings he tends to wear a frown or a line-face. He radiates confidence and self-assurance, maybe a bit of pride, unless placed in happy social situations. At that point he turns shy and pouty, slouching a bit. In general he seems calm, aloof, and in control of himself, and walks or stands with shoulders squared and back straight. After all, he's used to interacting with people naturally 7-9 feet tall in his world. ☠ SOUND: He has a soft purr of a voice, and tends to mumble or murmur, and speaks straight-forwardly with little slang or accent. I write him saying "yeah" but it's more of an "aa," or nothing more than a hum. What he sounds like: Law mocks Doflamingo (starting at 1:16) "Lost in Shinsekai" his image song As for that -ya epithet. It's an untranslatable suffix, Law appends it after the name or nickname of anyone he actually likes (Mugiwara-ya, Nico-ya, Zoro-ya). It's meant to convey his casual deference, since he rarely if ever uses true honorifics. So rather than try to translate it I leave it. It's important because if he doesn't like someone he gives them no suffix at all, either respectful or casual. ☠ SCENT: Law doesn't like perfumes or strong scents, because he needs to be able to detect odors that would help him diagnose medical problems or identify medications and poisons. Sometimes he smells a little of coffee, and might have a touch of antiseptic or latex scent. ☠ MENTAL INFORMATION: He has no resistance to mind-reading. For those who could sense it he may come off a bit dark, though he is rather self-controlled and doesn't think about anything particular when relaxed. His observation haki is fairly strong, but would not resonate as a supernatural power, but rather a strong will. ☠ MAGICAL INFORMATION: No magic, and his Devil Fruit ability is actually part of his DNA so like haki, it wouldn't register as a "power" in the supernatural or magical sense. For info on the Devil Fruit see Permissions. ☠ & ETC: Law likes onigiri and fish, he hates bread. He prefers coffee or tea but will drink stronger alcohol (neat, no mixers). He's 26-27ish in canon as of his last-seen point. 💀 OOC YES/NO ☑ BACKTAGGING: As long as we're consistently tagging (once a day) I'll backtag a thread forever, but if a gap of more than 2-3 weeks goes by, I tend to forget what the thread was about and will be more likely to drop it unless it's important to plot. ☑ THREADJACKING: Go for it. ☑ FOURTHWALLING: Fine, since he won't believe it no matter what is said. Also, tangentially, discussions of Earth pirates are hilarious to me since Oda uses real-world names but in entirely unrelated ways. Law himself is a reference to Edward Low, as well as having the names Trafalgar and "Water-Law" (Waterloo). Cue Napoleonic jokes. ☒ UNWANTED TOPICS: I'm actually pretty good with most everything so long as it's kept strictly fictional. Law is from a canon containing political oppression, racism, terrorism, genocide, cannibalism, and an awful lot of missing limbs so nothing really bothers me. That includes sexual topics and kinks. If you're still unsure let's talk it out. 💀 IC YES/NO ☒ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Not a fan of people invading his personal space. He deals with it but will be annoyed and embarrassed by anything more intimate than a handshake. Waived only if in a ship but that won't be likely (see below). ☑ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: BRING IT ON! He's an excellent swordsman and can use his ability in a fight. He will use Shambles and Takt in a fight, but permission must be given for him to use Mes or Amputate (see below). Even with his skills and strength, Law is human and can be injured and killed. I prefer to discuss it if the injury is going to be life-threatening (to make sure it's IC for him to take that kind of damage) and prefer not to kill him at all unless it would improve character development. ☠ RELATIONSHIPS: Law is not interested in letting anyone else get emotionally close to him/love him, because he doesn't want anyone else to die over it. If it happens organically I will happily roll with it but OOCly not seeking romantic ships. Casual sex on the other hand, totally possible. Law's intimacy issues means he doesn't like to kiss, but other than that he's down for one-night-stands and no-strings FWB stuff. Functionally bi in that he doesn't care to have a preference. He likes it rough. ☒ SENSITIVE TOPICS: because of his fairly dark past, Law doesn't like to talk about his parents (murdered), his sister (dead), or his time with the Donquixote Pirates. Not taboo but harder to get him to even mention: his terminal illness, his arm scar, or Corazon. He has unflattering opinions on government and law enforcement, and he can't abide by slavery or medical malfeasance. He also doesn't like fluffy social gossip so talking about cute, fun things, normalcy, sex gossip, etc sours his attitude. I welcome negative CR, so discussing these topics comes with the caveat that it might have consequences. 💀 Permissions 🚫 OPE-OPE FRUIT: The writeup is here and his permissions post for using it is here. 🚫 HAKI: Law can't turn off his Observation Haki, he can sense location, strength level, and life force but can't read minds or emotions with it. The above permissions post is also good for okaying use of haki in specific situations, such as seeing through an ambush or detecting someone while hiding. He has use of Armament haki but will only need it in situations where he's physically outmatched and not using it would result in a broken sword or exponential bodily harm. 🚫 MEDICAL STUFF: Please let me know if you want to avoid graphic descriptions of medical procedures. I'm not a doctor so I tend to gloss over things naturally, but if blood, injury, body horror, needles/injections, or anything else medical-related is a sensitive subject, tell me before Law comes to heal your character.
